Spain have had an indifferent form in the world cup. Spain began their title challenge began on a disastrous note when a Gelson Fernandes strike propelled the Swiss to a 1-0 win over the Spanish side. The much famed Spain strike duo failed to make their mark. However, the last two matches have seen Spain regain top form as they clinically dispatched Honduras and Chile . David Villa has been in the thick of things or Spain with 3 goals to his credit. However, Spain ‘s midfield is yet to come to their best form and the defense has looked patchy at times.
David Villa has already netted 3 goals for Spain in the tournament and his chances of winning the golden boot rest entirely on the ability of Spain to go as far as possible. The midfield pairing of Xavi and Iniesta have not been too dangerous in their passing and the onus would be on them to control and dominate the midfield for Spain. The defense pairing of Puyol and Pique looked shaky at times but with Sergio Ramos and Capdevilla manning the flanks, they probably have one of the strongest defenses on paper. Spain have a single worry in the form of the mercurial striker Fernando Torres who have been a shadow of himself in the tournament.
